To get from the airport to the Hotel Zone you have basically 4 options:

Option 1- Get the collective service from the airport. The cost is 15.00 USD per person. If you are one or two guests, this is probably the best option regarding cost/value. The drawback is that you will need to wait for the van to fill and you might stop at some hotels before you get to Solymar or Cancun Plaza. It is about a 15 Minutes ride from airport to Solymar or Cancun Plaza. 

For Punta Cancun it takes longer because it is further away.

Option 2-Go by bus to downtown Cancun. And then take a bus to the Hotel Zone. Very cheap option, about 1.80 USD per person, BUT it will take you about 2 hours to get to Solymar or Cancun Plaza. About 1 1/2 hours to Punta Cancun.

Option  3- Try to find a "pirate" taxi at the airport. Some taxis manage to slip by at the airport and you might be able to get a taxi for about 20.00 USD. No recommended because you may not find one.
